Cuplock Scaffolding – Types, Uses, and Benefits

Scaffold question - System Scaffold - IOSH forums

Can anyone offer some advice please

A scaffold contractor i am dealing with is proposing to erect a cantilever scaffold using HAKI and is telling me that no design is necessary. Im aware that TG20 design is for Tube and fitting but they tell me that because it's HAKI no design/instructions/information regarding the structure is needed. Is this right?

Also this particular Scaffold company insist that they only need "generic" training for system scaffold and not in the appropriate system being used eg: HAKI, Turner,Cuplock etc.

I was always under the impression that a scaffolder had to be trained in the system he uses and this would either be indicated on the CISR Card or by way of certification from the manufacturer.

any advice greatly appreciated Rank: Forum user

It should be a simple process for the contractor to supply a copy of HAKI's design drawings. I will presume that the erection will be tied, if so this needs to be desinged in, therefore a design should be submitted.

Refer to PUWER for the requirement of training, its down to the contractor to prove where he meets the Regs as well as assuring you of the competence of the erectors used.

Manufacturers do not provide training and therefore would not certificate any.

There are other scaffolding contractors out there who would love the work... Rank: Super forum user

I've actually been to Haki HQ and you have to be specifically trained to erect their system scaffolding. The erection and dismantling process is unique to their product.
In terms of design, yes a design is required and you should contact Haki direct to enable you to formally request the scaffolding contractor for the relevant information.

NB. You need to be aware, as I'm sure Haki will tell you, that many contractors claim to use Haki products when in fact they are using cheap copies from abroad.
Speak to the Haki Technical Department (who also do the training which, I believe they still undertake for free).

Hope this is of some help to the question asked.

TG20 does indeed apply only to system scaffolds BUT BS applies in full to all system scaffolds. TG20 provides information on the application of to tube and fitting scaffolds.

Refer to as your standard for system scaffold - unfortunately I do not have a copy of to hand

You might find it useful to post any questions you have on scaffolding on a forum called http://www.scaffoldersforum.com/ which is a site dedicated entirely to scaffolding and has a lot of experienced guys on there, more deucated than me in the do's and dont's of scaffold.
