Spiral Vibration Damper

Spiral Vibration Damper reduces Vibration (the high frequency, low amplitude vibration caused by horizontal wind passing across the line. It is designed to be used on OPGW and conductors with an outside diameter less than 0.75".

Product Description

Features:

A, one type shock absorber. It is very useful for a little diameter high frequency transmission line and optic fiber cable.

B, gripping section make sure that the cable don't move, the damping section provide mechanical interaction between damper and conductor.

C, easy installation.

D, Eliminates damage caused by wind and god vibrations

E, Reduces overall vibration of bare conductors

F, Made of weather-resistant, non-corrosive plastic

H, Large spiral damping section for cables, with smaller clamping section to gently clamp conductors

I,Marked conductor ranges and color coded to indicate cable diameter size ranges

J, Available in standard and high quality span lengths

Applications.

Distribution Range
Conductors between 0.250 in. and 0.500 in. outside diameter
Spans over 800 feet

Parts List

Standards - Applies to. Bare conductors, shielded wires and OPGW
Explanatory notes. (1) When the cable diameter is 0.461" and below, a maximum of three SVDs can be installed in one position.(2) On cables larger than 0.461" diameter, only two SVDs need to be combined in order to obtain the best damping performance.

How to Install a Spiral Vibration Damper (SVD)

Spiral Vibration Dampers need to be placed in the proper location to ensure success. They should be mounted near but not in contact with the following support devices (leave approximately 6-8 inches of clearance)

Armor bars
Cable suspension clips
dead center
or other electrical hardware.
SVD installation is easy and follows more or less the same procedures of all manufacturers.

Step 1: Properly install the ADSS (All Dielectric Self-Supporting) cable between poles or any fixed points along the line. This should be done according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Step 2: Place the SVD close to the ADSS cable, with the grip end away from you and the damping area close to you. This is done to determine the proper clearance to allow before beginning installation.

Note: As previously stated, the SVD should not touch the armor bar or any hardware at the end. There should be approximately 8 inches of clearance from the end of the hardware to the SVD.

Step 3: Install the SVD by quickly wrapping the wire from the gripping end or tighter end. Continue until the entire length of the SVD wraps around the cable.
