1 Echo Studio – Loudest Portable Alexa Bluetooth Speaker

Amazon owns just over 65% of the market share when it comes to Bluetooth speakers, which means inevitably, you will find one of their products in any review of speakers. In this case, it’s the Amazon Studio Echo.

Now when someone talks about any of Amazon’s countless number of wireless speakers, loudness isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Alexa is probably the first word you think of.

But you’d be surprised…

The Amazon Echo Studio can pump out just under 90dB of sound. That’s the same as a large lawnmower chewing away at your overgrown garden.

The main reason for this loudspeaker sounding so loud and great is the omnidirectional speakers. And there are five of them!

Alexa enabled…

The speaker isn’t just loud, but it acts as a smart home device, which does give it some good merit to consider when purchasing speakers. Alexa is quite useful for daily tasks and reminders, and the fact that it can be paired with other compatible devices makes it just a bit better than a lot of other devices.

It is important to note that this speaker isn’t really that portable. It has been designed to be a smart home solution/speaker that stays put for the most part.

Great for the tech-savvy listener who like it loud!

The speaker might not blow away audiophiles with its amazing sound quality, but it will appease the average consumer looking for something tech-savvy and loud as hell.

If smart speakers are of particular interest, then please take a look at our in-depth reviews of the Best Alexa Speakers on the market.

Our rating: (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Loud.
  • Alexa enabled.

Cons

  • Could be more portable.
  • Not the best sound quality.

2 Marshall Woburn 2 – Best Looking Loud Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Next, in our reviews of the Loudest Portable Bluetooth Speakers, we have Marshall, who have been the King of Loud for decades with their amps and speakers. However, recently, Marshall has adapted to the changing of times and have produced some stellar Bluetooth speakers, although a little on the expensive side.

Marshall offers great sound quality on the Woburn 2. Music sounds great, with vocals front and center, whilst keeping the rest of the instrumentals clear and where they should be. While the Bass sounds tight and absolutely thumps thanks to the two subwoofers built with a bass reflex system.

Not for outside use…

The biggest issue with the Marshall speaker is the maintenance that comes with it. It isn’t water or dustproof, which means it should stay inside at all costs.

If you love the vintage style and want audiophile quality music, the Woburn 2 ticks all the boxes. If you are looking for a loudspeaker that can be carried around or is packed to the brim with extra features, this speaker won’t impress you.

Our rating: (4.8 / 5)

Pros

  • Classic Marshall styling.
  • Great sound across the frequency range.
  • Fantastic for indoor use.

Cons

  • Not very robust and needs to be kept away from water and dust.
  • Expensive.

3 JBL Boombox – Best Value for the Money Loud Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Coming in at about 5kg, JBL’s boombox certainly means business. With such a large frame and weight, comes some serious power.

JBL’s boombox comes packed with two subwoofers with 30-Watt outputs, offering up some serious bass that can rattle a Hummer, considering 30 Watts of output can deliver an astonishing 100dB of sound.

Come rain, come shine…

The Boombox comes with an IPX 7 rating, standard for most JBL Bluetooth speakers, making it waterproof, perfect for the swimming pool, BBQ, or on a boat.

JBL’s Boombox is also considerably cheaper than a lot of speakers with the same amount of power, such as the Soundboks, which costs twice as much.

Listen for a whole day…

The speaker is portable, which means it runs off a battery when not plugged in. The battery can provide a full 24 hours of playback on a single charge, which means it can last a two-day camping trip easily.

Our rating: (4.8 / 5)

Pros

  • Seriously loud.
  • Superb value.
  • Waterproof.
  • Great battery life.

Cons

  • None considering the cost.

4 Sonos Move

Sonos is a reputable manufacturer of sound equipment, and their Sonos Move is no different. Sonos’ first portable speaker called “Move” is a considerable shakeup from Sonos.

Sonos has now integrated not only Alexa but also Google Assistant on this system, making it a great, versatile smart speaker.

Not for bass-heads…

The Sonos Move gets pretty loud, 65dB to be exact, but unfortunately lacks some nuances in the lower frequencies due to the fact that there is no subwoofer in this system. If you are a bass-head, who likes listening to EDM or Hip-Hop, the Move just won’t cut it.

This does make it hard to recommend the speaker over many other speakers.

A more portable Echo…

We think this speaker is best suited for people who don’t want to buy an Amazon Echo, but want a similar styled and feature-packed speaker. It’s also portable, which means your smart speaker can go with you wherever you go, unlike the Echo Studio.

Our rating: (4.7 / 5)

Pros

  • Great versatility for online assistants.
  • Portable.

Cons

  • Lacks low frequencies.

5 UE MEGABOOM 3 – Loudest Robust Portable Bluetooth Speakers

Ultimate Ears are well known for their rugged, loudspeakers and the MEGABOOM 3 is the epitome of all UE has to offer. It is a large, super durable wireless speaker that can be carried around anywhere and anytime. This speaker can take a beating and still be blasting out music on the other side.

It’s not only waterproof up to 1 meter, but actually floats, which makes it the perfect speaker for people who like to drive their boats whilst blasting some classic rock.

Minimalist elegance…

The speaker is large, but not as heavy as JBL’s boombox. It takes a lot of design cues from JBL’s Flip and Charge line-ups, but adds some elegance with a more minimalistic design.

The speaker has an excellent battery life at 20 hours and charges up quite quickly. There is a really nice dock that can be bought separately, that will keep it charged until you need to take it somewhere. Not only does the dock keep it charged, but it does look really nice as well.

Loud, but distorts at the extremes…

The MEGABOOM 3 can get quite loud, blasting music up to 100dB. Beware, though, the MEGABOOM doesn’t do too well at these high volumes, distorting quite a bit.

The woofer on here delivers excellent bass though, sounding tight and clear, cutting the mix nicely without making it sound muddy. Any bass junkie will enjoy the sound profile of Ultimate Ear products.

Our rating: (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Superb robust build.
  • Waterproof, and even floats.
  • Excellent low end.
  • Great battery life.
  • Stylish charging dock also available.

Cons

  • Distorts at maximum volume, but you will probably never have to turn it up that loud ever.

6 Bose SoundLink Mini 2 – Best Sounding Loud Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Bose’s SoundLink Mini range isn’t revolutionizing the portable Bluetooth speaker anytime soon, but it does offer a dependable, great sounding experience, none the less.

The design itself says a lot about what’s on offer here. It is quite dated and looks like a cheap 20$ dollar Chinese knock off speaker, but don’t let looks deceive you. The aluminum body is sturdy and will survive the occasional drop. Bose also sells a case to keep it from getting scuffed up if you prefer.

But let’s get to what’s really important. How loud does it get?

First off, there is no audio separation. At this size, it is virtually impossible. That said, the speaker sounds much bigger than its size suggests. Actual loudness is fair and more comparable to the larger speakers on this list, although it does distort quite quickly when cranking the volume.

It might not be as loud, but the sound quality on the Bose is absolutely outstanding. Music is clear, the bass is tight, and vocals cut through the mix clearly. If you love great sounding music that is well defined and more neutrally mixed, this speaker is for you.

Smaller so a shorter battery life…

It has a connection range of 30 meters, which is less than most speakers that have a 50-meter range. Battery life is a little below average, but good considering a smaller battery size due to having less space, 10 hours is good.

Our rating: (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Reliable and sturdy build.
  • Fantastic sound quality.

Cons

  • Dated design.
  • Distorts at higher volumes.
  • Shorter connection range than most Bluetooth speakers.

7 AOMAIS GO – Loudest Budget Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Coming to the end of our Loudest Portable Bluetooth Speakers review, we have the AOMAIS GO. This portable Bluetooth speaker might not be familiar to you, but once you see the amazingly low price, these retail for you might reconsider purchasing one. For under 75$, you can get one of these, which is substantially less than any other speaker on this list so far.

So, at this cost, what am I losing?

These speakers do lack the clarity that brands like Bose and UE offer, but if you are looking for a cheaper speaker that can stand toe to toe with the loudest of speakers on this list, then this speaker is just for you.

The AOMAIS GO has an IPX-7 rating making it water and dustproof. It is also drop resistant, perfect for any occasion whether you are hiking, on the beach, or at school.

Competes well for the price…

The speaker has two 15W full-range speakers, two 10W tweeters, and two passive radiators. The 40W output is enough to compete with any of the more expensive speakers on this list.

There is a decent amount of bass, although not as warm of full sounding as we’d like. Vocals are clear, and there is more than enough room for all the instruments to occupy their own space.

Fantastic battery life…

The battery life is also outstanding, with AOMAIS claiming up to 40-hours of playback on a full charge.

If you are on a tight budget but need something loud, we highly advise considering the AOMAIS GO.

Our rating: (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Incredibly affordable.
  • Water and dustproof.
  • Incredible battery life.

Cons

  • Lacks the clarity of more expensive speakers.

8 Anker Soundcore 2

By now, is an introduction to Anker products even needed? Branching out over the last few years, charger manufacturer Anker has been making large strides in the audio community with some really good earbuds and speakers.

The Soundcore 2 is no different. It is not a large speaker by any means and is more akin to the Bose SoundLink Mini 2 than say the Boombox.

Raindrops keep falling on my head – no problem!

The speaker looks great with a rubber exterior that makes it easy to grip and large branding on the front speaker grill. This exterior also gives it an IPX-7 rating, making it water and dustproof.

Battery life is great, with 24-hours of playback before recharging is needed.

But, there’s a catch…

Unfortunately, after a few listens, we felt something was missing here. A few more spins and we realized there is quite a bit of low end missing. Songs seemed a little thin, but at first, we couldn’t put our finger on it.

Mid-range frequencies sound good and are clear, but it becomes quickly apparent that the bass is missing, especially when you listen to some more bass-heavy EDM or hip-hop.

Loud, but not as loud as some…

The small size of the speaker means there are only two 6W drivers, giving us a total of 12W output. It does get loud, but not enough for a whole house party. This speaker is more suited to smaller events, like having a few friends over for dinner or for casual listening while cleaning your home.

If you want to find out all about the original version, check out our Anker Soundcore review.

Our rating: (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Robust and durable.
  • Excellent battery life.

Cons

  • Lacks bottom end.
  • Smaller size means it is less loud than its competitors.

So, what are the Loudest Portable Bluetooth Speakers?

Our top-pick on this list is 100% without a doubt, the…

JBL Boombox

It’s loud, obnoxious, and sounds great. Although it doesn’t float like the MEGABOOM 3, it is waterproof and fairly rugged. It’s easy to carry around, which means wherever you go, you take the party with you.

Happy listening.

About Warren Barrett

Warren has spent nearly half a century (now that's a long time!) as an ink-stained wretch writing for music magazines and websites and has no plans on giving up soon.

He is curious about all types of music and instruments apart from any genre with 'Urban' in the title. He's also not so keen on Plastic Potted Plants, Reality TV, and any movies with Kevin Costner in them.

He lives in Delaware with his wife Wendy and lots of great memories...
